Chairman’s Report Unfortunately Colin’s optimism on the turn out wasn’t quite realised however he gave a humorous report on what seemed to be a relatively quiet year. We are approaching our twentieth year and on reflection, we have moved forward, we have achieved a great deal and there is still enthusiasm. Most importantly, we are a happy club enjoying our tennis, secondly we encourage and promote tennis to younger members of our community through low subscriptions and the involvement of the Shipston Academy and thirdly, we offer some of the best value tennis in South Warwickshire. Where else can you play as much tennis as you can fit in, on such good courts, in such a nice location for less than 15p a day? We should feel proud of our club and its role in the village community. Club members should be pleased with their own involvements and pleased that we have such a dedicated and hard working committee who work well as a team and individually on your behalf.
Treasurer’s Report Rhian presented the income and expenditure and balance sheet for the year ended 31 December 2010 and briefly explained the balance sheet. Colin Locke proposed acceptance of the End of Year 2010 Accounts, this was seconded by Julie Smart and carried.
Julie reported that league tennis had been a good year considering we are a small club and draw on a relatively small pool of regular players, particularly good for our ladies. The Ladies A team won convincing with 31 points and were awarded a winner’s shield. Both our teams have been promoted to Division 5. Thanks were given to Maggie and Alison for being captains. The mixed A team had been demoted to Division 4 last year but having come 2nd this year they have been promoted back to Division 3. They received a runner’s up certificate. The B team achieved a credible 4th place out of 8 in Division 5 and thanks were given to Les for being captain of the team. Two mixed teams have been entered for summer 2011 and will hope we can persuade enough men to play. Winter 2010/11. There have been mixed results for the ladies, with 3 matches left to play the A team are in 4th place in Division 5 and hoping to avoid relegation. The B team have 1 to play and are joint 3rd in Division 6, 1 point about Chipping Campden in 5th place who they play in their last match! The mixed A team are joint 2nd in the league with 2 matches to play so its looking likely they will remain in Division 3, an excellent achievement. The B team are 5th out of 6 in Division 4 with 3 left to play. Social tennis. Mix-ins on Tuesday evening and Sunday morning continue to be well supported. Events. The junior tournament in June raised funds for Marie Curie and was good fun. Lastly Julie thanked all the captains, less, Maggie and Alison for their help in organising the teams and for agreeing to continue for another season.
Junior Section The junior sessions continue to be popular and are well run by Shipston Academy.
